General Information

The Gitter-Smolarz Library of Life Sciences and Medicine is primarily a library for study, teaching, and research for the students and staff of the George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences and the Sackler Faculty of Medicine. The library also serves the Tel Aviv University community.

Visitor Information

Entrance to the Library:

  • Free admission, with an ID: 

    • Tel Aviv University students and staff (including retired staff).

    • Students and Staff (including retired staff) of the following universities: Haifa, Bar Ilan, Hebrew University, Ben Gurion, Open University, Technion, Weizmann Institute.

    • Students and Staff (including retired staff) of hospitals and nursing schools

    • Members of the Friends of Tel Aviv University Associations

    • People who purchased a daily entrance ticket from another campus library (with a receipt)

    • Students, employees and staff (including retired staff) of special programs in the Life Sciences Faculty or the Faculty of Medicine by a letter of approval from the department secretary.

 

  • Entrance rates:

    • One-time daily entrance: 30 NIS

    • Ten entrances: 230 NIS

    • Subscription: you may purchase a 3- or 6-month subscription, for entrance to the library or for entrance and book borrowing. For further information please contact the Circulation desk: 03-6409195 or the library administrator: 03-6406403.

Entrance fees are non-refundable.

 

Library Code of Conduct:

The library is a quiet-study library. Conversations and group study are only allowed in designated areas.

Visitors and guests are required to abide by these rules.

Food and drinks are only allowed in the dedicated area (with the exception of drinking water).

Smoking and talking on mobile phones are prohibited.

 

Eligibility for Services:

  • Visitors may use the computers subject to availability.

  • Access to library computers is not allowed to employees of private and for-profit companies and lawyers.

  • For basic instruction, please contact the Reference desk.

  • Searches by the reference staff are for TAU community only.

  • Information retrieval and bibliographic searches on any topic via The Yocheved & A. S. Cohen Computerized Information Unit for TAU community as well as researchers, PhD students and doctors from other institutions.


Please note:

As of 2003, most of the library’s journal collection is electronic and only a small part of it is available in hard copy

Visitors (including students and staff of other institutions) cannot receive a user name and password to computers and resources that require a TAU id. and/or off campus access

The library provides other services, fee-based:

  • Photocopying facilities

  • Information retrieval and bibliographic searches on any topic via The Yocheved & A. S. Cohen Computerized Information Unit for TAU community as well as researchers, PhD students and doctors from other institutions.
